Should We Be Mad At Peter Kavinsky In To All The Boys 2?

Hear us out!

Spoiler warning: This post contains major spoilers about To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You.
Peter Kavinsky is undeniably one of the most popular pop-culture heartthrobs on Netflix right now. Ever since the release of To All The Boys I've Loved Before, we've all admired his perfect hair, athletic skills and adorable charisma. In fact, it turns out we've actually been genetically engineered to fall in love with him.
Now that the franchise's highly-anticipated sequel, To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You, has been released we finally get to witness his relationship with Lara Jean Covey blossom right in front of our eyes—and if you haven't already watched it, you're in for one wild ride.
Throughout the movie, Peter and Lara Jean face some serious hurdles and love triangles. However, although they do get their fairy tale ending, we were left questioning some of Peter's actions—which made us think: Should we be mad at him for some of the ways he's treated Lara Jean?
Read our thoughts below.

He knew Gen Posted That Hot Tub Video And Then Lied About It

One of the most devastating moments of To All The Boys I've Loved Before is when that hot tub video of Peter and Lara Jean gets leaked to the whole school. To make things worse, Lara Jean arrives at school to find screenshots of the video taped to her locker with the words "It's never the ones you'd expect".
Although Peter came to save the day, that would have been so humiliating for Lara Jean?—and naturally, she suspected Gen was to blame, even though she never actually admitted it.
In To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You, Lara Jean alluded to the fact that Gen had leaked the video and Peter replied saying "we don't know for sure that she did that". Turns out, he actually did know that Gen leaked the video and he blurted it out by accident. This means that he blatantly lied to Lara Jean's face.
We're not cool with this—especially because Lara Jean was so hurt by it. Maybe Peter lied about it to protect Lara Jean's feelings, but in our eyes, honesty is the best policy.

He Was Supposed To Meet Gen That Night At The Hot Tub

Turns out that despite Peter being in the hot tub that night, he actually wasn't waiting for Lara Jean at all. He was waiting for Gen.
When Peter accidentally told Lara Jean that he knew Gen posted the video, Lara Jean understandably asked him how Gen even knew that he was at the hot tub in the first place—and this is where our hearts dropped.
"You were waiting at the hot tub for her, weren't you?" Lara Jean asked. "You and I weren't really together yet," Peter reluctantly replied.
Is it just us, or does this change everything?

He Made Lara Jean Wait An Hour At The Coffee Shop

When Peter told Lara Jean that he wanted to take her out for coffee after school, we're sure she didn't expect to be waiting a whole hour for him to arrive.
Annoyingly, Lara Jean had to explain that she was waiting for her boyfriend to arrive when a few people had asked if they could take her free seat. The worst part about this whole situation was that Peter never actually texted her to let her know he would be running late, so it kind of looked like he stood her up.
We know that Peter's lacrosse coach has a really strict no-phone policy at training, so he couldn't exactly let Lara Jean know that his practice was running over-time, but surely he could have gone to the bathroom and sneakily sent her a text? Just a thought.

He Told Gen About The Tree House Meet-Up, Even Though Lara Jean Didn’t Want Her There

After Lara Jean had first told Peter about her plans to dig up the time capsule that they once buried at the tree house with Trevor, Christine, Gen and John Ambrose, he questioned whether Gen would be invited. Naturally, Lara Jean didn't want her there after the whole hot tub incident, but she turned up anyway—meaning that Peter had told her about it.
Does this mean that Gen and Peter talk way more than he leads on? And, if he knew that she had leaked the hot tub video, then why would he tell her to come to the tree house meet-up when Lara Jean would be there? It was also kind of awkward because Lara Jean and Gen were best friends at the time they buried the time capsule and they put their best friend bracelets in there.

He Was Sprung Cuddling/Comforting Gen

Our hearts seriously dropped with Lara Jean's when Christine broke the news that Peter and Gen were pictured getting way too close for comfort. Yes, Gen was going through some tough family issues and needed someone to talk to—but it is a little disrespectful to Lara Jean that Peter has remained friends with an ex when he knows just how badly she humiliated her.

He Took Lara Jean’s Necklace Back

TBH, we're still not over that breakup scene at the aquarium—and the fact that Peter actually took back the necklace he gifted Lara Jean for Valentine's Day. Sure, Lara Jean did ask him if he wanted it back, but why did he say yes? It's not like he was going to wear it himself and he certainly wouldn't have taken it back to where he bought it from.
Despite all of this, we know that people make mistakes and Peter did redeem himself at the end of the movie. To be fair, Lara Jean did hide her entire relationship with him from John Ambrose?—so we guess they're even?
